Stop gay conference – Chief Imam to government

The National Chief Imam Sheikh Usman Nuhu Sharubutu has called on the government to stop any intended gay conference scheduled to be held in the country.

According to the Muslim leader, allowing such a conference of the land will be the highest form of ingratitude to God for his protection over the country.

The Pan Africa International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association has served notice that its 5th Regional Conference scheduled for 27 – 31 July 2020 will be held in Accra, Ghana.

The announcement has generated controversies in the country with a large section of the public registering their displeasure towards the plan.

Contributing to the discussion at a press conference in Accra on Monday, 16 March 2020, the Chief Imam said under no circumstance should the conference be allowed to take place in the country.

Speaking through an interpreter, the Chief Imam said: “My attention has been drawn to an intended conference to be held by the community of gays that is the LGBT.

The information has reached me but I’m not clear whether that conference has been cancelled but I call on the government and all other relevant related institutions never to allow this to happen in our country.”

The Chief Imam noted that: “Gay and lesbianism is an abomination and in time and history, it has been the reason in the Quran, a whole nation was capsized and was destroyed by God and this is a story that both Muslims and Christians share and that is the story of Sodom and Gomorrah.

“What was done to those people in those times because of their sinfulness can also visit us when we reduce ourselves to this kind of immoral sinful act that shows our ungratefulness to God.”

The Chief Imam continued “God has been so gracious to us a s a nation, he has shown us his favour, he has given us his gift which relates to harmony and stability, preventing war and conflict and it will be a sign of ingratitude of the highest order to God to pay him back with sinfulness of engaging in lesbianism and gay.”

He prayed for all gays and lesbians to change their orientation and stressed that “government must remain resolute and never allow pressure of the international community to make us accept this immoral and sinful act on the altar of political expediency or any other reason imaginable in our minds”.

Meanwhile, the government has said homosexuals and their activist will not be allowed to have their conference in Ghana.

“It is a no, government won’t allow it to happen in Ghana,” The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Cynthia Mamle Morrison said in an interview on CTV.
