The Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Rev. Dr. Godwin Nii Noi Odonkor, has urged politicians and the public to desist from putting unnecessary burdens and pressure on the Electoral Commission and state institutions, especially as Ghana goes to the polls on December 7, 2024, graphic.com.gh reports.

According to the media outlet, the Presby Clerk said such unconstructive criticisms from the public towards the EC and state institutions do not sit well with Ghana's democracy and even have the potential of creating political tension, as well as fear and panic, among others.

He added that people who run those institutions could suffer from such criticisms as well.

In an interview with Graphic Online's Emmanuel Ebo Hawkson, he said "I think we are putting unnecessary burden and pressure on some of the institutions. Not just the institutions, but the persons who run those institutions. We should allow them to do their work."

Rev. Dr. Godwin Nii Noi Odonkor also described it as unfair and a drawback to the democratic development of the country if political parties, politicians, and the public continue to unjustifiably accuse and criticize the Electoral Commission (EC) and state institutions.

Despite Ghana's democratic and electoral successes, he believes there is a need to stop the unnecessary pressure on institutions.

He further applauded the Electoral Commission for its decision not to change the results in Accra, urging Ghanaians to be extra vigilant during the 2024 elections.

"I like it when the EC said that it can never change the results in Accra and that everybody should be so vigilant at the polling stations. We should drive this seriously into all the political parties and the public," graphic.com.gh quoted him to have said.
