Stop unauthorised development along Bosomtwe -Jake

Abono (Ash), Sept 12, GNA- Mr Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, Minister of Tourism and the Modernisation of the Capital City, on Thursday appealed to people living along Lake Bosomtwe to desist from undertaking unauthorised development along the lake.

He said since tourism is one of the pillars of the economy the government plans to develop the Lake basin into international standards. ''If these unauthorised developments are allowed to spring up it will mean a lot of structures will have to be pulled down one day'', the Minister said.

Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey was addressing the chiefs and people of Abono as part of his three-day working visit to the Ashanti Region to acquaint himself with the region's tourist attractions.

He called on the people to desist from activities that will destroy the ecology of the lake and suggested to the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma and Amansie East District Assemblies to form a tourism sub-committee that will ensure the proper development of the lake.

He urged the chiefs and people, the district assemblies and all landowners to team up with the Ghana Tourist Board (GTB) to plan how to develop the tourist attractions in the area.

Mr Bright Addai-Mununkum, the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District Chief Executive, said the assembly is building a 48-bedroom hotel but progress of work is very slow due finance.
