Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu has called on Ghanaians to be mindful when using their mobile phones saying instead of using them for frivolities, the mobile phone is a great tool which facilitates diverse forms of transactions and therefore should be used as such.

This comes in the wake of Hon. Eugene Boakye Antwi, Member of Parliament for Subin’s concerns on the rise of secret recordings an act which is believed to be a breach of trust and confidentiality.

Mr Antwi advocated for a legislative Instrument that would help manage this growing trend.

In general it’s not a crime to record a conversation without telling someone, however, it could potentially be considered a breach of privacy if the other party shares without the consent of the other party to the call.

Haruna Iddrisu agreed with Mr.Boakye Antwi’s concerns saying, “Mr. Speaker I agree with many earlier speakers that the phone even today is an emergency tool and instrument, if u need urgent medical attention, even when crime is been committed, today our most reliable weapon to alert for safety for security if there is fire is the mobile device and the mobile phone’’.

He, however, said, instituting a legislative instrument to control the usage of mobile phones in the country was not practical suggesting that, the proposed law was not going to make any difference. He advised that to curb the menace, Ghanaians had to change their attitude towards the excessive abuse of mobile phone devices.

"To the Ghanaian, we should stop the reckless and irresponsible use of the mobile phone. That is personal the legislation can’t stop it and legislation won’t stop it and legislation is not practical," he added.
