The recent three-day ‘#StopGalamsey’ protest has sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with users voicing their thoughts and support for the cause.
The three-day protest, which took place from October 3 to October 5, saw significant participation from various sectors of society, including notable public figures like actor John Dumelo and social media influencer Efia Odo, gospel artistes as well as media personalities.
Participants and supporters took to platforms like X, Facebook, and Instagram to share their experiences and opinions.
Many praised the organizers for raising awareness about the devastating impact of illegal mining on Ghana’s environment while highlighting the destruction of water bodies, forests, and farmlands.
They further urged the government to take stronger action against illegal mining in Ghana.
Photos and videos from the protest widely shared showed large crowds marching with banners and placards with various inscriptions on them.
The hashtag #StopGalamseyNow trended throughout the protest, with users calling for unity and collective action to protect the environment.
Some posts also criticized the government for not doing enough to combat illegal mining, demanding more decisive measures and accountability.
