Ms Esther Cobbah, the Chief Executive Officer of StratComm Africa, has asked women to live above social inhibitions that prevent them in using their capabilities to the full and for the benefit of society.

She said women should not wait for anybody in order to play their rightful roles in society. “We must be designers of the social environment that enables us to shine”, she added.

Speaking to female journalists in Accra on Friday, Ms Cobbah said the lack of a framework for women to combine childbirth and nurture with work outside the home should not deter media women from rising above, but be determined to focus on their aspirations and goals.

Female journalists from GNA, Peace FM, Metro TV, Joy FM, Daily Guide, Crusading Guide, TV Africa, TV 3, among others, gathered under Stratcomm’s “Share” platform, an initiative designed to help empower young women as they face the challenges of work, combined with other chores, as wives and mothers.

Ms Cobbah explained that, the event, the first of its kind by Stratcomm, would be held annually for different categories of women in the country. It is aiming at providing an opportunity for women to share experiences, ideas, bond and have fun.

She said in the various media houses today, as well as other fields of endeavours, few women were in management or higher positions, despite the fact that more women are attaining higher education and coming out with excellent results.

She said when the right environment was created for women, they excel and therefore asked that the right environment should be designed to cater for the development of women.

She however urged women to constantly set their sights high and learn to turn their adversities into a platform for soaring to greater heights in the realization of their potentials.

The female journalists then interacted, shared and talked about what inspired them, their work, combining work with marriage, their goals and plans and resolved not to let limitations and obstacles set them back as they work to inform, educate and speak for the marginalized in society.
