Street parties hit Accra as many Celebrate Boxing Day

Accra on Wednesday Boxing Day witnessed a number of street parties as many people were seen dancing and singing to loud musics from blaring giant speakers.

The Ghana News Agency (GNA) observed in places such as Lapaz, Darkuman and La, hundreds of merry makers, who filled the streets dancing, mainly the Azonto moves.

Some celebrants, who spoke to the GNA in interview, said Christmas was worth celebrating because it marks the birth of Jesus of Christ.

A merry maker at Lapaz, who gave her name as Maame Esi, said many people witnessed 2011 Christmas but could not live to see that of this year.

“That is why it is very important for some of us to come out and celebrate this day very well because God has spare our lives for us and it is worth celebrating it,” she said.

Another celebrant told the GNA that the celebration had become possible because Ghana had once again demonstrated to the world that it was a democratic state after successfully conducting another Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

Children were also not exempted from the celebration of the yuletide and at the Efua Sutherland Park in Accra; there was a big party and other entertaining programmes like fun games and talent show for them.

Dubbed X’mas party in Accra, some of the children engaged in ‘Azonto competition. Winners were given beverage drinks.
