Hundreds of residents in Gushiegu in the Northern Region had the roofs of their buildings ripped off by strong winds last night rendering them homeless.
The strong winds that reportedly started around 2030hrs wrecked havoc on several structures including the Electoral Commission’s local office, two Junior High Schools, a Senior High School and hundreds of houses.
According to the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Gushiegu, Alhaji Alhassan Fuseini, Tuesday’s havoc was compounded by the on-going load shedding as the area was already in darkness.
The DCE told Joy News’ Northern Region correspondent, Mohammed Hasmid, scores of people got injured in the pandemonium that broke out during the incident.
He stated that District Assembly is liaising with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to provide relief items to the affected people as they work at restoring the situation to normalcy.
