Takoradi Circuit Court “B” on Thursday remanded George Parker, a 27-year old student, and Isaac Awuah, a 29-year driver, for conspiracy to commit crime and defrauding by false pretence.

They pleaded not guilty and are to re-appear on October 1, 2012.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Fuseini Yakubu said Parker and Awuah are friends and reside at Dzorwulu in Accra and Adiembra in Sekondi, respectively.

Inspector Yakubu said during the month of April this year, Parker told Awuah that he had materials that he could use to double any amount of currency.

He said Awuah informed Albert Seth Quansah, the complainant, about the deal and he consented to it.

Inspector Yakubu said the complainant then gave the accused persons 2,500 Ghana Cedis to go and buy the materials but after receiving the money, the accused persons went into hiding.

He said meanwhile, the complainant had alerted the Police about the conduct of the accused persons.

Inspector Yakubu said at about 9.30 a.m. on August 1, 2012, Police had information that Parker was hiding at the Rucco Hotel duping innocent people.

He said the Police rushed to the hotel where the accused, who had a quantity of papers cut into the size of dollars and a bottle allegedly containing mercury wrapped with adhesive tape, was arrested.

Later, Awuah was also arrested and during investigations, the accused persons admitted the offences.
