Student donates assorted items to GIMPA clinic

A Level 200 BScBA student of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Ms. Matilda Hammond, has donated assorted drugs and other items to the GIMPA Clinic. The other items include a Media Water Dispenser, Sony DVD Player and three dustbins.

Speaking to the press after a brief presentation ceremony on GIMPA campus, Ms. Hammond said she was motivated to make the donation as her contribution to the Clinic’s effective delivery of health and sanitation services to students and other members of the school community.

“Health is wealth. And as the ancient Roman expression has it, ‘A healthy mind resides in a healthy body.’ So, as members of an intellectual community, the health of our minds, that is, our academic performance, is enhanced if the health of our bodies is in good hands. Hence, the decision to make this donation to the GIMPA Clinic,” Ms Hammond said.

Ms. Hammond, an aspiring SRC Women’s Commissioner for GIMPA, said her gesture was her corporate social responsibility activity in response to admonishment by former U.S. President John F. Kennedy, to wit, “Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country.” The Level 200 student hoped her act would serve as an example to other students to make a difference in the school community and Ghana as a whole.

“GIMPA is a leading provider of quality human resources for Ghana, Africa and the world at large. I, therefore, take this opportunity to call on other public-spirited individuals and corporate organizations who continue to benefit from GIMPA’s expertise to support the GIMPA Clinic and take up other projects on campus. This would improve upon facilities here and make the teaching and learning experience a most enjoyable one,” Ms. Hammond said.

The items were received on behalf of the GIMPA Clinic by Dr. Daniel Nortey, the medical director of the clinic. He thanked Ms. Hammond and expressed the hope that other students would take a cue from her selfless gesture and support their academic institution.
