A Circuit Court in Accra on Tuesday sentenced a student to five years imprisonment for stealing a Hyundai Sonata vehicle valued at GHc 60,000 and an iPhone at Ashongman Estates.

Nicolas Brobbey, charged with stealing, pleaded guilty and the court presided over by Mr H.E. Essandoh convicted him on his own plea.

Brobbey, who was homeless, committed the act a month after the complainant, Mr Patrick Quansah, had offered him a place to lay his head.

He took the car to Kumasi together with two others at large. The vehicle was retrieved and towed to Accra.

Prosecuting Chief Inspector Francis Tarsan said the complainant is a Creative Director residing at Ashongman Estate in Accra.

Chief Inspector Tarsan said during the month of November, this year, Brobbey was introduced to him as a friend who was homeless.

According to the prosecutor, Brobbey therefore went to stay with the complainant in the house for one month.

Prosecution said on December 14 this year, at about 3:00pm, the complainant who was sleeping in his room woke up to see smoke coming from his kitchen.

Chief Inspector Tarsan said Mr Quansah saw an empty egg carton and a napkin placed on his burner in the kitchen.

The complainant started calling Brobbey but there was no response. Mr Quansah went to his compound and detected that his vehicle with registration number GW 2114- 14 had been taken away.

Prosecution said the complainant reported the matter to the Police and on December 16, this year Brobbey was arrested in Kumasi with the complainant’s vehicle.

In his caution statement, Brobbey admitted the offence and mentioned Pascal and Forgive as his accomplices.

Prosecution said the Police were making efforts to apprehend his accomplices.
