Mr. Joseph M. Kumah, the International Development Manager of Media Savvy Training Solutions, a United Kingdom-based social enterprise, has advised prospective university students to examine course contents and opt for programmes that would offer them ready jobs.

He asked students to critically scrutinise course outlines and consider their viable economic indicators and potentials, so that they could easily get employment on completion, without necessarily relying on the formal sector.

Mr. Kumah gave the advice at an orientation seminar for the newly enrolled students of the newly established Media Savvy Ghana Training School, a subsidiary of Media Savvy Solutions in Sunyani.

Mr. Kumah emphasized that university education required critical thinking and entailed vigorous research work that empowered graduates to become self-employed.

He condemned the attitude of graduates who mostly relied on the formal sector for employment, indicating that “university education equips and empowers us to create jobs for ourselves and society”.

Mr. Kumah expressed concern about the high unemployment rate in the country and therefore entreated unemployed graduates to come together, identify alternative ways of sourcing funds and start “something small”.

“Until you begin something small, you will continue to waste your time combing round for non-existing jobs”, he added.
