Students asked to avoid examination malpractices

Fresh students of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) have been entreated to study seriously and avoid examination malpractices.

This is because the University would not deal leniently with any student involved in examination malpractices.

The new Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Mawutor Avoke gave the advice at the 20th separate matriculations of the University at the Winneba and Ajumako campuses.

He said out 13,986 applications received for the various programme at Winneba 5,832 students were offered admission, saying that 3,010 have registered as at close of admissions due to limited facilities.

Prof Avoke who was making his maiden matriculation said a total of 654 applications were received for various post graduate programmes at the campus.

He said a total of 296 comprising 187 males, representing 63 per cent and 109 females, representing 37 per cent were offered admission.

The VC said out of the total offered admission, 237 comprising 147 males and 90 females have registered as at close of admissions.

He said the University, through the use of its internally generated funds and the help of government over the years, has put in measures to address the problems of inadequate facilities,

He said Educational Studies Faculty Block at the North campus is virtually completed.

The VC said when all is set, the Department Special Education would move from the South Campus to join their colleagues at the North Campus, adding that the facility has more space available for lectures and offices.

At the College of Languages Education at Ajumako, the VC said out of 1,078 applications received for the various programme, 738 students have been registered as at close of admission.

Prof Avoke said 27 applicants, comprising 18 males and 9 females were offered admission for the Postgraduate Programmes as a result of limited facilities.

The VC said proposals are being implemented to establish a Radio station at Ajumako campus to all students to listen lectures.

He urged the students to allow the university to pass through them, mould them and transform into productive, patriotic citizens.

The Registrar of the University, Dr C. Y, Acqua-Mensah administered the Matriculation Oath to the fresh students.
