Students' body appeals to government, teachers

Sunyani, March 10, GNA - The Association of Student Representative Councils of Senior High Schools in the Brong-Ahafo Region on Thursday appealed to the government to correct problems associated with migrating teachers onto the Single Spine Salary Structure.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani on Thursday on behalf of the association Augustine Frimpong-Manso, the acting President, said the strike was affecting the academic calendar. . "The absence of teachers from the classroom is seriously affecting academic work and this would in turn affect students' performance in examinations," he said. "Schools will not be able to complete their syllabi to enable students to adequately prepare for the impending Basic Education Certificate Examination and West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination," Frimpong-Manso said. He said social activities such as quizzes and debates, which helped students to enhan ce their skills in public speaking, had come to a halt.

Mr Frimpong-Manso expressed regret that some students would take advantage of the current situation to engage in social vices which could create other social problems that the government would have to spend huge sums of money to rectify.
