Some residents of Akyem Subi in the Kwaebibirem District have turned the local Presbyterian Basic School in the town to a place of convenience by frequently defecating in some of the classrooms.

Mr Kwasi Asare-Aninakwa, the headmaster of the school, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the nefarious activities that had been going on for some time now, had become a great worry to both teachers and pupils.

“At times the pupils have to use contact hours to clean the mess before classes can go on,” he said.

He stated that last week, not only did they report to school in the morning to find out that one of the classrooms was full of human excreta, but that the chalkboard had also been splashed with faeces.

Mr Asare-Aninakwa said the criminals had mainly targeted classes four, five and six adding, “There have been three of such incidents since schools re-opened on September 10.”

He noted that altogether more than 26 of such despicable incidents had happened at the school since October 2012.

“What beats my imagination is the fact that there is a public place of convenience only a few meters away from the school,” the head teacher said.

A GNA reporter who visited the school found out that a portion of the school’s football field had also been turned to a refuse dump by the community.
