Kumasi, May 18, GNA - Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, a former financial secretary of the Ashanti Region branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who initially declared his intention to contest the Subin parliamentary seat, has now decided to give his backing to the incumbent member of Parliament (MP), Mr S.K. Boafo, the Ashanti Regional Minister.

Odeneho Appiah, who backed out of the race even before nominations for the parliamentary seats of the party were filed in April, also called on his admirers and supporters to fully rally round Mr Boafo in his bid to win the Subin seat in the coming general elections.

He made the declaration at a forum of the Sweet Brothers and Sisters Club, a youth group, at Amakom in Kumasi on Monday.

Odeneho Appiah, however, made it clear that his decision to pull out before nomination and support Mr Boafo was not based on the influence of the incumbent MP nor any individual or group of people. "I did so on my own volition after critically analysing events in the party and for the sake of unity and progress of the NPP at the Subin constituency and the region", he added

He told the forum that Mr Boafo had already started some projects and ventures, which are yet to be completed and it will be unwise not to give him another mandate to help accomplish those projects. Miss Yaa Konadu, secretary of the club, said the era when politics was perceived as the sole preserve of men is over and women should now accept the challenge and also opt to contest for political office like their male counterparts.

She said they should cease being mere supporters of men and also let the men now turn round to support and back them for their quest for political office. 18 May 04
