New Edubiase (Ash), Aug. 15, GNA - Implementation of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the Adansi South district is gradually taking off, Mr Richmond Sarkodie, the Scheme's Manager has said. "For now, the politicisation of the NHIS in the area has gone down and so we are sure that patronage will increase tremendously", he told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at New Edubiase. Mr Sarkodie said so far the scheme had mobilised more than 120 million cedis as premium from over 27,000 registered people in the district.

"Looking at the population in the area, one will see that a lot more people are yet to register", he said and asked those who had not yet registered to do so.

Mr Sarkodie appealed to those who made part-payment of their premium to finish up so that their cards could be made available to them to access free medical care.

The scheme manager, however, said since the district was predominantly a farming area, most of the people had expressed the desire to pay up and fully join the scheme during the cocoa season. Mr Sarkodie was optimistic about the success of the scheme and therefore appealed to all stakeholders to assist by encouraging others to register.
