The Sudanese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E Babikir Elsiddig Mohamed Elamin, has congratulated Ghana for being a model of democracy and stability in Africa.

Speaking at a ceremony in Accra to mark the 61st independence day celebration of Sudan and how that country has fared well during 2016 in attaining lasting and universal political stability, the veteran diplomat was full of praises for Ghana for the country’s democratic successes.

“Once again Ghana has shined as a model of democracy, peace and political stability, followed by smooth transition of power, this great nation made all Africans very proud’’ he said.

H.E Mohamed Elamin used the opportunity to eco the heartfelt congratulations and best wishes President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir expressed in his message to President Nana Akufo Addo and the people of Ghana after the December elections.

He stressed the importance of building on the fraternal and historical ties between Ghana and Sudan to further enhance and expand bilateral cooperation in all fields within the framework of pan-Africanism and shared commitment to international peace, democracy and justice.

The Sudanese envoy therefore called for increased business relations between Ghana and his country.

In a recent report titled Sudan Economic Outlook, the African Development Bank noted that the Sudanese economy experienced a growth of 6 percent in 2016, which was driven by agricultural and the extractive industries, and supported by improved macroeconomic policies.

Ambassador Mohamed Elamin he also pointed out that the latest decision by the US government to lift its unilateral economic and trade sanctions on Sudan since 1997 has removed all formidable hurdles to attract direct foreign investment and getting its fair share of international trade.

He therefore sees it is an opportunity for Ghanaian businesses to explore avenues to boost trade between the two countries and help improve the living standard of their citizens.

He congratulated Ambassador Kwesi Qaurtey on his recent election as a deputy chairperson of the AU Commission whiles describing him as a “seasoned and capable diplomat”.
