Musician and political commentator, Kwame Asare Obeng (A Plus) has dared the Director-General of the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA), Mr Kwame Owusu, to sue him over claims that the Authority spent GHS10,652 on food for eight people in a single meeting.

The Ghana Maritime Authority denied the allegation and insisted the facts of the matter have been “misrepresented.”

The allegation was first made by A Plus on his Facebook wall.

“Charley me I still don't understand how 8 people spent 10,652,00 on food during a meeting. Ah how? It means each person's food (just one meal) cost 1,335.00 Ghana cedis. Really? If you own Ghana as your private company will you spend this amount on a meal for just one meeting? If we complained during the campaign that NDC spent 20 dollars on Kenkey in Brazil, how then can we support this? 20 dollars is just 100 Ghana. This is 1.335.00 per person per meal. Did they chew golden sausages or the elephant itself came to the meeting?” A Plus wrote.

The Authority, in a statement, said the memo making the rounds on social media, “have been doctored”.

According to the Authority, the amount quoted in the memo was the cost of food for different meetings (management and stakeholders) held on 31 October 2017; 6 November 2017; and 8 November 2017; and could not have been for eight persons in a single meeting as purported in the publication.

Mr Owusu has served notice that he will sue A Plus over the allegation.

Reacting to the lawsuit threat on Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM hosted by Kwabena Prah Jnr. (The Don) on Wednesday, 31 October, A Plus said: “I am ready for any legal battle on this matter, he should go ahead and sue me.”

“Does he know the number of times people have threatened to sue me but never went ahead with it? He should find out. I am being a citizen and not just a spectator. I will continue to expose rot in the country irrespective of the government in place.”
