...distressed by use of son`s name in London terror trial
Ghana´s deputy Inspector-General of Police in- charge of Operations, Dr. K.K. Manfo, said Wednesday that he is distressed at the continued use of his son`s name by the prosecutor at a London court trying terror suspects.

One of the accused persons in the London court is said to have stolen an identity card belonging to Asiedu Manfo (Manfo`s son), and the prosecution has continued referring to the suspect by the same name even after British police established that the man in question was not a Ghanaian national.

Manfo said in Accra that he had initiated moves to halt the use of his son`s name, by the accused who is standing trial for alleged terrorist attacks in London.

He said the continued use of the name was tainting his good image and that of his family.

The junior Manfo`s identity card was said to have been stolen by a man reported to have been part of a group of six men who planned the London bombings in July 2005.

However, when the trial opened on Monday, prosecutors maintained referring to the suspect as Asiedu Manfo.

Dr. Manfo said he had made contacts to stop the prosecutors from using the name but was told that since the suspect claimed to be called by that name, that would not stop until they were through with prosecution upon which his true identity could be established.
