The tarring of the 48.7 kilometres Sunyani-Atronie-Ntotroso-Achirensua highway, estimated at 40 billion cedis would be completed in early 2005.

J. Adom Limited, a Techiman-based road construction company, is executing the project that is funded by KFW, a German firm.

Nana Kwadwo Seinti, Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, said this at a durbar of chiefs and people of Ntotroso in the Asutifi District as part of his two-day visit to the area.

He described the road as a strategic link between the Brongs and Ahafos and would facilitate economic activities between the two areas.

The Regional Minister added that the road, when completed, would improve relations between the people of the two sides of the Region. Nana Seinti responded to a number of concerns such as the provision of potable water and extension of electricity to the town Nana Twireku Ampim III, chief of the town, mentioned in his speech.

The Regional Minister said the government was doing its best to provide comfort to the people through the numerous projects being implemented by the District Assemblies as well as the introduction of Poverty Reduction programmes.

He said requests by some communities for specific projects like water facility had not been met because they were unable to meet their counterpart funding of five percent for such projects.

Nana Seinti commended the self-help spirit and initiative of the chiefs and opinion leaders of the town that had enabled them to undertake a number of development projects.

He told them to raise the 60 million cedis, which formed five percent component funding of 1.2 billion cedis for the water system project.

Mr Michael Nsiah-Agyapong, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asutifi, gave the assurance that the Assembly would ensure equity in the distribution of its resources for the benefit of all the people in the district.

The Regional Minister later addressed a similar durbar at Wamahinso and advised the chiefs and people not to wait for the government or the district assembly to provide all their development needs.

''Any community that does not exhibit self-help initiative is likely to be left behind in socio-economic advancement since the demand on the nation's resources far exceeds supply'', he said
