Sunyani, Dec. 6, GNA - About 30 per cent of teachers in the Brong-Ahafo Region have not received their November salaries from the Controller and Accountant General Department pay roll.

Mr. Asante Nketieh, the regional secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) told the Ghana News Agency that the situation was as a result of a change over by the Accountant General's Department from the old system to a new system.

He said some of the affected teachers had made the complaint at his office and this had been communicated to the national headquarters. In some schools not a single teacher had received his or her salary.

Mr. Nketieh said all affected teachers had been asked to submit their old pay slips to their managers and district directors at their various education units for compilation of their names to be sent to national headquarters in Accra.

He appealed to the teachers to exercise constraint since efforts were being made to rectify the situation and gave the assurance that by next week they would have their salaries paid. Mr Kofi Boakye, a teacher at the Roman Catholic Primary School, said the situation was very unfortunate because they were not informed about the changeover.

"It is so embarrassing to be in a queue at the bank for so may hours only to told your salary has not been paid."
