Sunyani mourns the late President

The Chair of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana for Brong-Ahafo Region, Reverend Kwadwo Owusu Sarpong, on Friday said death, an inevitable end of man is only a process of transformation for the beginning of new life.

He said death was a means by which the creator used to give the body of man a new self and life in eternity.

Rev. Sarpong said this when speaking in an exhortation as part of the final funeral and burial rites of the late President at the Jubilee Park in Sunyani.

The programme organised under the auspices of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), attracted people from all walks of life from various parts of the region including the aged, the youth, traditional rulers, security personnel and the media.

Rev. Sarpong said the late President’s death signified a way for him to reunite with his maker for eternal life, hence “we should learn from him” because death would be the fate of every human being.

He said the late president was humble, hard working, peace-loving and selfless, and called on Ghanaians to imitate and allow those virtues to permeate the national psyche for the society to progress.

Mr. Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, said the Regional House of Chiefs enstooled the late President as “Asomdwoeehene” (chief of peace) due to his peace-loving nature.

He said the late President’s demise should be a legacy for the people to promote peace by our actions and deeds in the region and the country at large.

The event was preceded by a procession from the Sunyani Post office Square by a contingent of Police, Military and Fire Service led by their respective Regional Commanders to the Jubilee Park.

Mourners clad in red and black clothes and attires with some red arm and head bands danced to the music provided by the regional Army and Police bands.**
