Tema, Sept. 06, GNA -- Mr Richard Takyi Obeng, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Abiam Media Road Safety Campaign, has reminded Ghanaians that it was their collective responsibility to help reduce to the barest minimum, the carnage on our roads. To this end, he said, they should endeavour to embrace road safety education, and observe traffic regulations. Mr Obeng gave the reminder when he spoke to the Ghana News Agency in Tema on the responsibilities of Ghanaians to ensure safety on the country roads.
While advising drivers to be courteous to the travelling public, he also urged passengers to endeavour to give drivers the peace of mind to concentrate on driving them safely to their destinations. Mr Obeng reiterated the need for drivers to constantly carry out maintenance works on their vehicles, in order to prolong their life span.
He also asked them to observe traffic regulations at all times to help reduce road accidents.
On driving license, he implored the Driver Vehicle Licensing Authority of the Ministry of Transport to make sure that licenses were issued to persons who had successfully completed training in driving. This, in his view, would help eliminate quack drivers from the system. The CEO urged personnel of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit of the Ghana Police Service to intensify their scrutiny of drivers, to help bring sanity into the system. 06 Sept. 09
