Suspected armed robbers Kill Cop

Peki-Avetile (V/R), Oct. 10, GNA - Suspected armed robbers on Friday attacked a police patrol team between Osiabura and Fintey on the Ho-Accra Highway killing a police officer.

Police Constable Patrick Arthur died from gunshot wounds at the Volta River Authority (VRA) Hospital at Akosombo where he was rushed to at about 0230 hrs.

Mr Kofi Duku Arthur, Volta Regional Police Commander told Journalists that the police team from Peki-Avetile in the Volta Region was on its normal patrol duties when they met a road block with wood blocks between Osiabura and Fintey.

He said just as the patrol vehicle was about to reverse, the robbers emerged from the bush and shot at the vehicle, hitting the windshield.

He said a bullet ripped through Constable Arthur's forehead. Mr. Arthur said no arrests had been made as at the time of going to the press, adding that policemen from the Volta and Eastern regions were "combing the area for the arrest of the suspects".
