Suspected cable thief, two others arrested

A scrap dealer suspected to have stolen a quantity of telecommunication cables is in the grips of the Tafo-Pankrono police in Kumasi.

Two others have also been seized for alleged possessing of narcotic drugs.

The arrests were made in a swoop, as part of police operations to go after narcotic drug dealers.

This was after recent police investigation revealed that most heinous crimes in some parts of the Metropolis were committed under the influence of drugs.

The suspects, Abdul Kabil Swala, scraps dealer, Yaw Frafra, labourer, and Abdullai Seidu, an upholsterer, are in police custody.

Chief Superintendent of Police Charles Domanban, the Tafo-Pankrono Divisional Police Commander, who spoke to the press at a briefing in Kumasi, said they were grabbed on October 16, this year, at about 19:00 Hours at the Tafo Cemetery.

Swala, admitted ownership of 50 pieces of telecommunication cables found in his wooden structure of abode.

He claimed it was bought from a friend but could not lead the police to trace him.

The Divisional Commander said the cables would be handed back to the telecommunications company that can prove ownership after his trial.

Frafra and Seidu were arrested from a wooden structure where seven wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Marijuana “Wee” were uncovered.

They were escorted to the police station together with the exhibits which would be sent to the Forensic Laboratory for examination during their trial.
