A 29-year-old man, suspected to have carried out a string of car robbery attacks in Kumasi and other parts of the Ashanti Region has been arrested.

Abdulai Hussein, alias “Meginma,” was seized by the police on December 29, 2014 at Baworo New Site near Antoa in the Kwabre District.

Found on him were a number of deadly weapons including a sub-machine gun with 17 rounds of ammunition, catapult and a jackknife.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwaku Ampofo Duku, Deputy Regional Commander, told a media briefing that Meginma’s arrest followed a tip-off.

He said the suspect had already been identified by some of his victims as well as four of his accomplices being held in prison custody over car snatching cases.

ACP Duku said Meginma and his gang engaged the services of a driver to carry them on his Toyota Hiace bus from Kumasi to Mankessim in the Central Region for a funeral on August 16, last year and ended up snatching the vehicle.

The stolen bus was later intercepted at the Kintampo police barrier in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

ACP Duku said the suspect managed to slip through but four of his colleagues: Kassim Musah, Mohammed Oliver, Issifu Alidu and Issifu Musah were apprehended and have been remanded into prison custody.

The Deputy Regional Commander said, in July 4 last year, Meginma used the same trick to rob another driver of his Mercedes Benz Sprinter bus.
