Mamponteng (Ash), Jan. 25, GNA - A man believed to be a member of a gang of five suspected armed robbers who on Wednesday allegedly robbed a trader at Medoma in the Kwabre District was on Wednesday lynched by a mob as he tried to escape after the act.

The other four members of the gang, however, managed to escape with an amount of 18 million cedis and two mobile phones, all belonging to one Abena Tiwaah.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) morgue for autopsy.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency at Mamponteng on Wednesday, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Thomas Fokuo, Kwabre District Police Commander, said the gang, all masked and wielding offensive weapons besieged the victim's house at dawn and robbed her of the money and mobile phones.

He said the robbers then scaled a wall but the deceased fell and was dazed.

DSP Fokuo said some of the residents who heard the screams of the victim during the robbery rushed to the scene and on seeing the robber lying on the ground they butchered him to death. The District Police Commander said his outfit was still investigating the case and appealed to the public to refrain from pronouncing instant justice on suspected criminals.
