Suspected robber lynched in the Northern Region

A suspected armed robber has been lynched by residents of Bilando, near Tatale in the Northern Region, after he and his co-conspirator attempted to rob residents on Tuesday night.

According to an eye witness, the robbers attacked residents on their way to a nearby village, but other residents rushed to the scene upon a tip off.

Confirming the incident to Class News, the Public Relations Officer of the police command in the Northern Region, ASP Mohammed Tanko, said: “The incident happened between Takpaso and Sangoli. They are communities around the Tatale area and to be precise, Bilando is exactly where this incidence took place.”

He narrated that on Tuesday, at about 9:00 pm, two persons were traveling from Takpaso to Sangoli. When they got to the outskirt of Bilando, they were signaled to stop by two people on a motorbike. The two on the motorbike – the suspected robbers – assaulted the two travelers, but they managed to escape to the next village and informed the residents of the presence of the suspected robbers on the road.

Three of the residents took up arms and went with the assaulted travelers to the scene they were attacked. The suspected robbers were still present, and the residents managed to temporarily render the rider of the motorbike blind with their torch lights which resulted in the motorbike veering off into a ditch.

The residents accosted the two suspected robbers and inflicted machete wounds and gunshot wounds on them. The incident attracted a mob to the scene, and the police were informed. The police tried to trace the suspected robbers but it was to no avail.

The following morning, an assembly man reported finding a dead person who had some gunshot wounds and marks that could only have been deposited by a machete.

ASP Tanko was quick to add, “As of now, we are unable to confirm whether it was a robbery case or if it was purely a case of causing unlawful harm.”
