Suspend Kofi Adams – NDC petitioners to NEC

Two members of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), have petitioned the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) to suspend their National Organiser, Kofi Adams, for misconduct vis-a-vis the NDC’s presidential race.

Chief Akwetiu Bayaga of the Akuafo Hall branch of the Ayawaso Wuogon Constituency and Nii Nortey Nortey of Korletey-Korle, PWD, said in a petition that they were “appalled” by attempts by Mr Adams to sow seeds of division within the NDC through his actions and utterances.

In the petition, the two said: “One such act is the divulgence of confidential information to the media. On 23 January 2018, he disclosed to the general public via radio and Ghanaweb, information of a meeting by NEC and the Council of Elders with potential presidential aspirants.

“According to Mr Adams, the party appealed to the presidential hopefuls at that meeting to contribute to the funding of party activities. He stated that besides ex-President John Mahama, all the other potential aspirants failed to contribute.

“Article 40(8d) states that no official should disclose confidential information without permission,” the petitioners said.

The two said just like happened in 2010, when “Mr Adams and others maligned the leadership and structures of the NDC party before, during and after the 2010 presidential primaries dubbed FONKAR (Friends of Nana Konadu) and GAME (Get Atta Mills Elected) contest, which subsequently led to his suspension from the party”, the National Organiser “is on a similar tandem and now more sophisticated in his cynical ploy to split the NDC.”

“Mr Adams has the penchant of causing disaffection among the rank and file. As a National Organiser, he, Kofi Adams, is very much aware of the implication of sowing seeds of division in the party.”

They cited several media publications for which they argue that through his public comments, Mr Adams has “clearly undermined the office he his occupying; undermined the Kofi Botchway report; undermined the directives of the Council of Elders and above all, the rule of natural justice” as far as “fairness and openness for all potential presidential aspirants” is concerned.

“In this regard, we call for the immediate suspension of Mr Adams as National Organiser of the NDC,” the petitioner demanded.
