Sekondi, Jan. 17, -GNA-The implementation of the new scheme of service of the Ghana Education Service (GES)

is likely to delay till February instead of January 2007. The delay is as a result of the inability of the Auditor General's Department (AGD) to complete its work on January 10 this year.

In a letter dated January 4, 2007 and signed by Michael K. Nsowah, Acting Director General of the GES and copied to all regional directors of the GES, Secretaries of Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and other stakeholders, the letter stated that, "due to unforeseen circumstances, the implementation of the new Scheme of Service and correction of distortions in the salaries of some categories of teaching personnel cannot be done".

It further said that, "the IPPD unit had been working on some personnel whose salaries were suspended, adding that data from the districts that have been

vetted are being sent to the AGD for final vetting and payments". "It is our sincere hope that the payment of the new salaries would be done in February with arrears which would take retrospective effect from October 2006'.

Mr. Robin Faidoo, Western Regional Chairman of NAGRAT said, though he had heard rumours about the delays in rectifying the suspended salaries, he had not heard officially from the national Executives of NAGRAT and could not comment on the latest development. 17 Jan. 07
