Sunyani B/A Sept. 20, GNA - Angry customers of "Adom Wura Susubiribi Susu" scheme on Monday besieged the branch office in Sunyani demanding their deposits.

They took the action with the apparent fear that the branch manager, whose name they could not disclose had run away with their monies running into millions of cedis.

The customers, numbering about 50 told the Ghana News Agency that for about nine days the office had not been opened, neither could the manager be located anywhere, a very unusual operational practice.

Mr. Samuel Boakye, a carpenter, said he had deposited 450,000 cedis and collectors of the scheme had for the past week refused to come round to collect the deposits.

"The office has remained closed and we feel we have been defrauded since the branch manager nor the workers can be traced", he said. Mr. Ben Gyimah, a tailor who had 300,000 cedis deposit with the scheme said before the closure of the office he tried on several occasions to withdraw some of the money but the management kept on telling him there was no money.

Mrs. Yaa Mansah, a kenkey seller and a depositor said she had tried fruitlessly for the past two weeks to locate the collectors. When the GNA contacted the Police, Chief Superintendent Osei Asibey Ahenkan, Sunyani Municipal Commander confirmed the incident, which had been reported and police were investigating.

Efforts made to contact Mr. Anthony Kwaku Kyem, Executive Director of the scheme in Accra were to no avail.
