The Bailey Bridge over River Akora at Agona Swedru which collapsed about seven months ago would be opened to traffic in the first week of August. This followed the completion of concrete and metal works on the project.
Mr Aronld Amponsah, the Ghana Highways engineer at the project site, made this known when Mr Samuel Oppong, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), paid a visit to the project site.
Mr Amponsah said “we are at the finishing stages of the project and the bridge can be opened to traffic on the first week of August as promised”. He said it was left with one or two metal slabs to be fixed after which it would be handed over to the government, Agona west Municipal and Swedruman Council of Chiefs.
Mr Oppong expressed gratitude to Mr Amponsah and his workers for their hard work and dedication that enabled the project to be completed on schedule.
He also thanked the Swedruman Council of Chiefs and residents of Agona Swedru for their cooperation with the authorities after the collapse of the bridge adding that another bailey bridge would be constructed at old Sawmills to ensure free flow of vehicles to the Municipality.
In February a contracting firm, Las Adventuras, engaged in drainage works in the Akora River blasted dynamite that destroyed the bridge.
