Former FA Chairman, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has condemned the influx of sycophancy in the country, an attitude he believes has been misguiding Ghanaian leaders.

Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe posited that the failure of Ghanaians to ‘say it as it is’ gives such leaders the impression that they are ‘properly’ executing their duties, though it could be the contrary.

Taking his turn on ’21 minutes with KKB’, the football administrator chided Ghanaians for being hypocritical about the shortfalls of leaders when they are in power. He accused Ghanaians of exhibiting the highest level of sycophancy.

“We have always been pretending in this country. When the thing is bad, say it’s bad. We keep on pretending. And by doing that we fool our leaders. They think they are doing well. Sycophancy at the highest level. That is what is creeping into our society and it is dangerous”, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe stated.

He cited an incident at the 39th anniversary of the uprising of June 4, where founder of the National Democratic Congress, Jerry John Rawlings refused to acknowledge the pleas by Anita De Sosoo for forgiveness. The dramatic display by Madam De Sosoo, according to him, was needless considering the reaction of the former President.

“I don’t know. Look at what happened with the NDC concerning June 4th. I mean for a lady to go and kneel before somebody begging him, I don’t understand it. Sycophancy. And what was interesting is that the person you want to plead with had his face somewhere else. He wasn’t even looking at you”, he said.

According to Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe, the decision to suspend some NPP executives without employing any constitutional directives was in bad taste. He also alleged that there were some party members who disapproved of that act but failed to voice out their disapproval.

“These are people who have been elected – Afoko, Kwabena Agyapong, Sammy Crabbe and it followed that other people from other regional constituencies were also suspended. As I speak to you now, I am a suspended member of the party. But that doesn’t really bother me because there are a lot of others. I know there are people in the party who are not comfortable with it. There are a lot of elderly people who are not comfortable with it but they are not talking”, he added.

Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe held the assertion that the decision to suspend the above-mentioned party stalwarts was without the consent and approval of President Akufo-Addo, who was ‘the leader and flagbearer of the party’ at the time.

Suspension of NPP national and constituency executives

In December 2015, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party has upheld a decision by the party's Disciplinary Committee to suspend its General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong and 2nd Vice Chairman Sammy Crabbe, after the duo had been accused of undermining the party’s authority.

Some constituency executives such as the Manhyia party Chairman and some NPP executives in the Ashanti region were also suspended.
