Accra, Jan 28, GNA - Four synchronised National Immunisation Days (NIDS) for Ghana and neighbouring countries have been set for February, March, October and November year to provide the final push to eradicate of poliomyelitis.

Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa, Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), said after two years of being polio free, Ghana recorded eight case of wild polio in 2003.

He was speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday on the successes and challenges of the GHS, and to announce the celebration of its first anniversary to be launched February 4.

The celebration would be on the theme: "Eat Well, Stay Healthy and Live Longer." It would dwell on the dangers of bad eating habits and the need to eat good food and exercise to prevent contracting non-communicable diseases.

Professor Akosa expressed the hope that whatever problems that Nigeria had with the immunisation programme, which led to their decision not to participate in the exercise, would be solved quickly to enable the February Immunisation Day to be held simultaneously.
