Accra, Sept. 16, GNA - Takoradi polytechnic has announced that the polytechnic would introduce new special and non-tertiary programmes for the oil and gas industry next academic years. The special programmes include welding (City and Guild), America welding society certificate, logistics and transport (CIIT), Air craft maintenance and the non-tertiary programmes includes CTC (part I,II,II), MVT (part I, II, II) among others.
Mr John Frank Eshun, Vice-Rector of Takoradi Polytechnic, in an interview with GNA in Accra on Thursday said the institute had upgraded its syllabus to address the needs of the oil and gas industry in the country.
He said the new programmes would afford technical and vocational students the opportunity to be trained and be resourceful in the oil and gas industry.
Mr Eshun said Tullow Ghana Limited was prepared to assist in the training of students who are interested in the industry, adding that the institution has trained students who are already working in the industry.
He said the polytechnic seeks to promote industrialization and economic development for the western region and Ghana in general. He noted that the vision of the polytechnic was to achieve excellence in manpower training and action research in order to provide support to industry and commerce in the area of human resource development in the country. Mr Samuel Tsibuah, Industry Liaison Officer of Takoradi Polytechnic, said the institute is seeking more collaboration from stakeholders in the oil and gas industry since "we are the closest to the oil field". He urged the general public to take training programmes and education in the oil and gas sector seriously to be abreast with the current developments in the industry. Mr Tsibuah said the institute is collaborating with institutions abroad to introduce more programmes.
