TESCON Blasts Mills

The Tertiary Education Students Confederacy of the New Patriotic Party (TESCON), Legon branch, has descended heavily on President Mills, alleging that Ghanaian political activities have been marred by violence and acts of vandalism since he assumed office.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra. Andrews Asamoah, TESCON president, claimed never in the history of Ghana’s democratic politics has we recorded such a high level of violence in any mass voters registration exercise than under President Mills’ administration.

“There is no body in the country today who does not know the violence and the intimidation going on at the Odododiodoo constituency where persons perceived to be Akans are prevented from being registered by machomen,” he noted.

Mr. Asamoah further alleged that violent acts such as ransacking of stores and physical assault of NPP functionaries like Ursula Owusu and Abu Jinapor were all motivated by a presidential staffer and National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the area, Nii Lantey Vanderpuije.

“For Nii Lantey Vanderpuije to openly declare that he will resist and prevent persons with his blood is outrageous and deserves to be condemned by all civil societies, opinion leaders and those who have Ghana at heart.

“Where is Fred Degbe among a host of others who are fast losing their credibility as neutral arbiters with their biased and selective criticism. Ghana today, has a president who sees no evil, hears no evil and acts no evil,” he lamented.

He again claimed that under Mills’ administration, the Accra metropolitan Assembly (AMA) tax force demanded sex from female hawkers in exchange for their seized items, and asked if this was a better or bitter Ghana agenda.

“A five-month pregnant woman called Celestine dies in the BNI cells, nothing has been don about the case yet, but when the wife of Alhaji Inusah Fuseni died the president immediately said a committee should be established to unravel the cause of the death of the minister’s wife. Are some women treatment because they belong to the NDC,” he asked.

According to him, the NDC thought the arrest of Kennedy Agyapong was in the right direction because what he said was tantamount to high treason, noting that NDC bigwigs like Tony Aidoo, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, Daniel Ohene Agyekum, Dr. Kwabena Adjei, Joshua Aryea and Kwasi Pratt, among others, had made more dangerous statements in this country than Mr. Agyapong.

The TESCON president stated that during the 2006 Odododiodoo buy-election, Nii Lantey Vanderpuije said “those who don’t have muscles should learn how to get muscles and those who don’t know how to shoot should learn how to shoot”.

He continued that Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, now Deputy Minister of Local Government, said Ghana would burn if ROPEB was passed. Daniel Ohene Agyekum, who was then the NDC Ashanti Regional chairman, said if the NDC did not win the 2008 elections, Ghana would burn.

He further explained that Kwasi Pratt, on Radio Gold in 2008, said if the NDC did not win the 2008 elections, Ghana would witness a couple d’etat. Dr. Kwabena Adjei, who was the chairman of the NDC in 2008, at an IEA meeting said that all indications showed that his party would win power and if that did not happen, there would be civil war in Ghana.

Mr. Asamoah used the platform to condemn any tribal sentiments or ethnocentrism in Ghanaian politics today, adding that Ghanaian’s must know that many NDC functionaries and the president himself had made dangerous tribal statements which were divisive and must also condemned.
