Accra, Aug.10. GNA- The Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) of the Ghana Trades Union Congress (TUC) has called on the Labour Commission to prevail upon the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) to pay without delay the 15 per cent retention premium for the 11 categories of Non-teaching staff of the Ghana Education Service (GES), saying the payment is long overdue.

TEWU said the delay in the payment which the Commission agreed to effect in May 2011, was generating agitation among its unionists.

Mr Dan Ayim Antwi, General Secretary of TEWU, who made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Wednesday, the Labour Commission should also urge the FWSC to resume negotiations with TEWU on the payment of another 15 per cent Retention premium for eleven other non-teaching staff.

He said the call had become necessary because the 14 days deadline given to the FWSC which was from July 19, 2011 for the payment and resumption of negotiation had since expired.

“I expect that the FWSC would use its mandate to expedite action to ensure industrial peace”, Mr Antwi added.
