Members of the Teachers and Education Workers Union (TEWU) on Friday resumed work after a two-day strike with a warning that another strike is possible.
"The agitation is only suspended, come July 24, when negotiation is expected to begin, if we are not happy we will resume," TEWU General Secretary, Daniel Ayim Antwi warned.
Union members last week refused to work for two days in protest against the failure of the University authorities to pay salary arrears and fix a date for salary negotiations.
Salary adjustment for members is crucial, the union's General Secretary, told Public Agenda on Thursday. "There is no need for any negotiations or calculations it is just automatic, we need to adjust to ?5,500," he added.
Junior and senior staff of tertiary institutions throughout the country belonging to Teachers and Education Workers Union and Federation of University Senior Staff Association of Ghana, on Tuesday July 17, went on strike to back their demand for salary arrears owed them.
In a swift response to their action, the management of the Universities promised to pay the arrears in mid August. They have also agreed to begin negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement on Tuesday, July 24.
The workers at a general meeting on Thursday, warned that they would go on strike again if negotiations over their overall service condition as spelt out in collective bargaining agreement stall.
