Tamale, Aug. 30, GNA - The Teachers and Education Workers Union (TEWU) has organised a three-week training workshop in Information Technology (IT) for its members in the Northern Region in Tamale to promote efficiency and productivity at their workplaces. The 20 participants drawn from the 13 districts of the region were introduced to programmes such as the "MS DOS", "MS Excel" and "MS Word".

Mr Ralph Apaaya, Regional Industrial Relations Officer of TEWU, addressing the closing session on Friday noted that the advent of information and communication technology has become necessary in modern times and urged the participants to approach the training with seriousness.

He said: "It is upon this that TEWU has organised this training workshop in collaboration with Fedra Computer and Secretarial Institute because our union is of the view that members must be an asset to the employer".

Mr Apaaya expressed regret about the suspension of the in-service training course organised in the past to update the knowledge of personnel and called for its re-introduction.

He commended the Management of the Institute for accepting the Union's appeal to reduce the course fee for its members.

Mr Chikpah Kwaku Demuyakor, Regional Director of Education announced that all district education offices would be computerized soon to improve efficiency.

He urged the participants to strive to acquire knowledge by availing themselves of training programmes to make them marketable and improve their living conditions instead of depending on the government for everything.

Mr Francis Jawula, the Proprietor, said the Institute was ever ready to render its services to workers to enable them to become computer literate.

He called on heads of departments and institutions to sponsor their staff for such training to enable them to provide quality service to their organisations.
