Accra, Oct. 25, GNA -The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) on Wednesday protested against the unco-operative attitude of Ghana Education Service (GES) management to convene Standing Negotiating Committee meeting to resume negotiations on TEWU's Collective Bargaining Agreement, which expired in 2001. In a protest statement to the Chairman of the National Labour Commission (NLC), TEWU said GES has failed to convene a meeting on the negotiations, which was decided upon at a meeting of the Minister of Manpower, Youth and Employment, GES and TEWU.
The statement, signed by Mr. Dan Ayim Antwi, General Secretary of the Union said outstanding issues to be addressed are payment of arrears of Responsibility Allowance, End-of-Service Benefit/Provident Fund and Review of Salaries for 2007.
It said, "It was decided that management should convene a meeting within one week to enable the two sides to conclude negotiations" on the unresolved issues.
"Inter-sectoral discussions held at one time, did not, in any way, negate the GEAS/TEWU negotiation on the review of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, it added."
