The imminent threat of Ghana’s water resources running dry in a few years gets scarier by the day.
Water treatment plants are being shut down one after the other almost every time, due to pollution, largely by the activities of illegal gold miners.
However, the Head of Communications at the Ghana Water Company, Steve Mantey recently disclosed that some water bodies in our villages in the Western region, Eastern, central, Ashanti and the others have been polluted by illegal mining activities.
He listed River Pra, Daboase, and River Ankobra, Birim River as the main water bodies which have been polluted in the Western region and Eastern region respectively.
The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has also assured Ghanaians that government will soon roll out a well-thought-out strategy to deal with the menace of illegal mining in the country.
A section of the public have also shared their views on how government should deal with galamsey menace in the country.
Majority of them are urging government to ban the illegal miners as it is affecting our agricultural development in the country and also they are asking government to provide jobs for them in other to stop this activity.
However, some are telling government not to condemn the illegal miners and rather educate them and not take any action against them.
