In a press statement by the police dated September 16, 2025, the Northern Regional Public Relations Officer, C/INSPR Luckman Niendow Alhassan, indicated that the injured officers are still admitted at the hospital and receiving treatment.

The police justified their use of warning shots and water cannons, stating that the protesting students became aggressive upon their arrival at the school’s premises, adding that the students pelted them with stones.

“The students became aggressive upon seeing the Police and started pelting stones which resulted in three students sustaining injuries, as well as, three Police Officers who are currently receiving treatment at the hospital. No damage to school properties and Police facilities were recorded,” portions of the statement read.

The statement further indicated that intelligence received suggests the protesting students had burned vehicle tyres at the school's main entrance, the administration block, and in front of a police post.

“Intelligence received indicated that at about 9:00am, students numbering about five hundred (500) massed up in front of the school's administration block. Upon receipt of the information, a team led by Supt/Mr Richard Lantei Odartey was deployed to restore law and order.

“It was observed that, the demonstrating students had set ablaze vehicle tyres at the main entrance of the school (TAMASCO direction) and in front of the Police Post (Kpalsi direction) on the main road, as well as, in front of the Administration block,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, it further stated that calm has been restored on the school’s premises, with a police team stationed there to maintain law and order.

“The Northern Regional Police Command has restored calm at the Tamale Technical University following an unlawful demonstration on Tuesday 16th September, 2025.
