TUC adds voice to protest.

Accra, Sept. 22, GNA - The Trades Union Congress (TUC) Ghana, today added its voice to protest against militarisation of the Ridge Hospital, Mamprobi and La Polyclinics.

Instead, the TUC said the government should take immediate steps to improve the lot of health workers to ensure that there "is equity, fair play and justice".

In a press statement signed by the Secretary-General of the TUC, Mr. Christian Appiah Agyei, the Congress said the move will not be in the best interest of the general public because majority of them would not be able to cope with medical fees charged at military health institutions.

The fees, it said, would be higher as obtained at both the 37 Military and Police hospitals.

"The TUC is convinced that if more permanent measures are instituted and better facilities are provided, services rendered at the civilian medical institutions would be just as good and efficient as those rendered by the 37 Military and Police Hospitals "We therefore implore the government to employ dialogue as a means of finding an enduring solution to problems facing health workers instead of resorting to ad hoc and controversial measures which can only lead to strife".
