The strike is due to government's failure to uphold their collective bargaining agreement
The Technical University Senior Administrators’ Association of Ghana (TUSAAG) has hinted at plans to embark on a nationwide strike by the end of September 2024 if their demands are not met.
In a statement issued on Sunday, 8 September 2024, the association expressed its growing frustration over the government’s ongoing failure to uphold their collective bargaining agreement, despite numerous assurances.
TUSAAG specifically criticised the government for not implementing revised allowances for senior members of public universities, a directive issued by the Ministry of Finance in May 2024.
The association called this inaction a clear violation of their rights.
Additionally, despite an addendum to their collective bargaining agreement signed in July 2024, the government has yet to enact the promised changes.
The association raised serious concerns regarding alleged discrimination in the disbursement of common allowances, pointing to inequities faced by unions representing similar categories of workers at public universities.
Among their key demands, TUSAAG is insisting on the payment of agreed rates for vehicle maintenance, off-campus allowances, fuel, utilities, and sanitation/security allowances.
The association has therefore resolved to proceed with a nationwide strike action if these payments are not reflected in the validation of September 2024 salaries.
