Taaju Al-Rahman, Quran recitation contest for children set for July 4

Management of Nima Cares Foundation has announced Saturday, July 4, 2015 as the date for the second edition of Taaju Al-Rahman, scheduled to take place at the Cheap House (Nima).

Taaju Al-Rahmah, The Holy Qur’an Recitation Contest, features children aged between 9 and 13 competing in front of a prestigious panel of judges for various prizes.

This year, 60 children from 20 Islamic institutions applied to be part of the competition, but only 8 children made it successfully to the finals.

The final eight contestants are Hamza Khalil (Adabiya Islamic School), Sulaiman Bello Yakubu (Kelmatu Laihi Islamic School), Adam Abubakar Sadiq (Al-Huda Islamic School), Abdul Rahman Maryam (Al-Banat Islamic School), Abdul Latif Zulaiya (Ain Shams Islamic School), Abdul Rahman Zainab (Answarudeen Islamic School), Abdul Mummin Hikma (Al-Banat Islamic School) and Ahmed Abdul Qadir (Answarudeen Islamic School).

Taaju Al-Rahmah means ‘Crown of Blessing’ and competitors are to take the blessed journey in order to win and be crowned champion.

The competition is an integral part of Nima Cares Foundation’s strategic approach to strengthening children’s bond with the Holy Qur’an.

The programme's co-judge, Dzazaudeen Abubakar Alhassan, praised the unique nature of the event: “Taaju Al-Rahman brings together children from neighbourhoods of Accra to showcase their exceptional knowledge in a charming and inspiring setting,” he said.

“The show tries to reach children’s hearts and is designed to appeal to both children and their parents,” he added.

Winner of this year's edition of Taaju Al-Rahmah goes home with a cash prize of GHC500, books and souvenir from Indomie Ghana and Icodehs.

The selection of judges for the competition was well thought out to promote the transparency and credibility of the programme.

“The panel includes prestigious individuals who have extensive knowledge and experience in Qur’an recitation competitions. Our judges have been on various platforms, as it is very important to have a panel of judges who are familiar with the rules and criteria and are comfortable working together,” says Nima Cares founder, Faisal Bashiru.

Judges for this year's event are Dzazaudeen Abubakar Alhassan and Ibrahim Sualla of Al-Huda Islamic Society. They will judge the competitors on knowledge of intonation rules, quality of sound and performance, and recitation modulation.The host of the programme is Rabiu Alhassan (citi fm).

The 2015 Taaju Al-Rahmah promises to be another great event after the success of the maiden edition last year.
