Tailor jailed for defilement

Richard Nii Banny Appiah a tailor was on Friday sentenced to nine years imprisonment for defiling and impregnating a 15- year- old girl at James Town.

This was after the court had found him guilty on the charge of defilement.

The court however acquitted and discharged him on two counts defiling two other minors aged 14 and 15 from 2009 and 2013.

Appiah is said to have housed two of the victims in one room and had sex with them in turns.

The case of prosecuting Detective Inspector Kofi Atimbire was that the complainant is Mr Paul Semeh, Executive Director for Street Children Empowerment Foundation, a non-governmental organisation at James Town.

Appiah also resides at James Town. On May 5, 2012 in the morning, the complainant and his team went to James Town community on visit.

During their rounds, prosecution said they had information that Appiah had defiled two minors.

Also Appiah between 2009 and 2013 lived in the same room with the victims and had sex with them in turns.

Prosecution said in the process, the 15 year old victim, got pregnant and had a year- old daughter with the victim. However when the baby was six month, Appiah took the baby and gave her to the 14 year -old victim and sacked the 15 year- old.

Detective Inspector Atimbire said when the case was reported by the 15 year- old victim who was sent to the Osu Shelter Home while Appiah was nabbed by the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service.

During the interrogation, Appiah admitted the offence.
