Former Communications Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has urged the president to make enough funds available for the country to prepare for an outbreak of Coronavirus which has already killed thousands of people around the world.

In a tweet, the Medical Practitioner said Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo must take a critical look at the threat the disease poses to the nation if it eventually makes its way here and take all the necessary steps to ensure the country is properly prepared to fight it.

His post is in reaction to a report by the World Health Organisation that Ghana is not properly prepared to fight the disease.

“Ghana assessed its capacities to respond to any suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 and identified gaps to plan for preparedness, response and control activities,” the report states.

The report further stated that the GH¢2.5million government has committed to supporting preparation is not enough.

15 suspected cases of the disease have been recorded in the country but all tested negative.

Dr Omane Boamah adding his voice to the report said, “@NAkufoAddo should take a serious look at the threat of Coronavirus disease. He must show leadership, commit reasonable funds, provide PPEs, assure frontline health workers and begin to deepen international cooperation.”
