Take action now - Sekou tells Mills

Embattled former acting Head of the National Youth Council (NYC), Dr Sekou Nkrumah, has launched yet another blistering verbal attack on President Mills accusing him of dealing with impropriety and insulting behaviour being exhibited by some members in his administration by looking the other way, refusing to acknowledge it, or feigning ignorance eventhough he touts himself as “Father for All”.

Sekou Nkrumah also scathingly slammed the Minister of Youth and Sports and the Board of Directors at the NYC for their loud silence over the negative propaganda and insolence of Prince Derrick-Adjei, the Deputy Youth Coordinator at the NYC.

“…I’m not too sure why the Minister of Youth and Sports is silent about the behaviour of Derrick; I’m not too sure why the Board of the NYC is silent about the behaviour of Derrick and also the Presidency. We have a President who says he is a father of all……………but sits down to allow government appointees to be making all kinds of insulting remarks about leading opposition members, Presidential candidates and parliamentarians. I think that’s most unfortunate…ironically, one of the people who is questioning the sanity of Derrick Adjei is the very person who appointed him. I mean the former Minister for Youth and Sports, Rashid Pelpuo. He is the one who appointed Derrick to a position which did not exist; Deputy Co-ordinator for International Relations…,” Sekou Nkrumah said in an interview on PeaceFM News.

Prince Derrick-Adjei, the former leader of the Ga-Dangme Youth Association, has been in the news lately for all the wrong reasons.

Lees than a week ago, he incurred the displeasure of some youth groups and a section of the public, most especially members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), when he rationalised the apparent state protocol breach during the Fetu Afahye celebration that the flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Akufo Addo, was not duly acknowledged because of his diminutive stature, whiles some members of his entourage reeked of alcohol.

On Monday September 13, Prince Adjei, who is a member of the NDC’s Communication team, claimed to have a tall list of NPP homosexuals in the country’s august House, Parliament, and nothing will stop him from releasing the names by Wednesday, September 15. He strangely failed to do as promised.

But the dismissed Boss of the NYC described Prince Adjei’s comments as unfortunate, pointing out that his (Adjei’s) current position and recent comments are incompatible with the position he occupies.

“…These were unfortunate comments or statements coming from Derrick…My advice is that, Derrick and his colleagues should focus on educating Ghanaians, especially the youth, on the National Youth Policy (NYP) and how the government is going to implement it…..I think this whole involvement in propaganda, I don’t think it is really necessary…It somehow drags the name of the NYC in the political gutters….,” Sekou said.

The son of Ghana’s first President, however, lauded the NDC government for the recognition done his late father’s memory by declaring his birthday, a statutory public holiday.

“…The NDC did very well by making September 21st…….a public holiday…..giving him the recognition as the founder of modern Ghana is in order. That is not to take anything away from all those who also struggled alongside him for the Independence of Ghana, but I think Nkrumah stood taller than his contemporaries,” he stated.

Last year, President Mills declared 21st September of every year as a statutory public holiday in honour of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. A committee was also set up to organize a yearlong anniversary in commemoration of his 100th birthday. The year-long celebrations end on Tuesday which has already been declared a holiday.
