The Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister has asked staff of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) to always take initiatives as a way of promoting the work of the Assembly.

Madam Elizabeth Sackey says workers should not wait for somebody to give them something to do, but they should create opportunities that would go to a long way to promote their departments as a way of contributing to the development of the nation.

She said this on Wednesday in an address to the TMA staff during a visit to the Assembly as part of her regional tour of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

The visit, which was the fourth this year to a local assembly, was as she puts it, “necessary for me not to only read reports at my office, but to help me familiarize myself with the operations of the MMDAs.”

She advised staff members not to be discouraged by anybody whilst taking initiatives, but know that their service was not unto the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) and therefore should work hard for the promotion of the nation.

“If you do your part and I do my part and all of us do our part, God will give us a nation we will be proud of to say to everybody we meet that I am a Ghanaian.”

She observed the need to bring back the reciting of the national anthem and pledge every morning before work begins as a way of instilling patriotism in Ghanaians saying that “how can you promise on your honour to be faithful and loyal to Ghana my motherland when you come to work at 11 o’clock…”

In view of that, Mrs. Sackey observed the need to introduce the clocking system to the assemblies to ensure that people came and left their working places according to time.

She charged Ghanaians to work hard and change their attitudes towards work and uphold the principle of team work to promote the work of the Assembly.

The MCE, Mr. Felix Mensah Nii Annan-La, was grateful for her initiative to visit the MMDAs and observed such a gesture would boost the morale of the staff of the MMDAs to work harder.
